About READU

Research with Expert Advisors (READU) is an interdisciplinary team of community-based researchers at the University of Washington. Our team includes people with lived and living experience with drug use, whose expertise drives and guides the research.

Our work is centered in drug user health equity, improving overdose response within the emergency medical services (EMS) system and reducing stigma against people who use drugs.

Since READU’s founding in 2022, we’ve partnered with Public Health Seattle King County, the Council with Expert Advisors on Drug Use (CEADU), VOCAL-WA, and other academic and community partners on community-engaged research.

READU is based on the belief that research and change should be driven and informed by people who use drugs and serve people who use drugs. The harm reduction and organizing principle “Nothing about us without us” is central to our work.
